Dubai’s culinary journey does not stop, no matter what is happening in the world. We have sadly seen the closure of some of the city’s foodie mainstays this year, but there are no endings without beginnings. Some exciting new concepts have come up over the summer, and as we head into the tail end of 2020, there are still a few more new restaurant openings we can expect.

The late chef Joel Robuchon was one of the most celebrated French chefs in the world, holding a record 32 Michelin stars before his sad passing in 2018. He earned his stars with L’Atelier, the 12th outpost of which opened in Dubai at the start of October. Located in DIFC, which is the unofficial headquarters of haute cuisine in Dubai, the restaurant features a warm and understated design aesthetic and a menu filled with fantastic signature creations that showcase the very best of the late master’s oeuvre.

The Pangolin

The Pangolin is effectively a two-storey leisure complex that will include a gym, pool, a terrace, two restaurants and two bars, plus a private dining room. Both the menu and the aesthetic have a very European flavor with an African element, and there is a sharing concept that’s designed to encourage conversation at the table. All of the ingredients are locally sourced in partnership with local farmers and food producers. The first of the restaurants, located on the ground floor, opened in early October, and the second is expected to open this month.
Lola Taberna Espanola

There are a few restaurants in Dubai that serve up delectable Spanish cuisine, but Lola Taberna Espanola aims to go a step further by bringing the lively ambiance of a Spanish neighbourhood to Dubai. The restaurant, which will be opening at the TRYP by Wyndham Hotel in Barsha Heights, will feature a menu filled with bright, zesty flavours and the atmosphere of a casual taverna (hence the name). Expect things to change after sundown, however, as the restaurant goes into nightlife mode.
The Orangery

Phileas Fogg’s is a brand new concept opening up at the famous Address Montgomerie at Emirates Hills. It will be a complete social hub and divided into five zones - a pub, a garden, an amphitheatre, a kid’s area and a restaurant called The Orangery. Taking its inspiration from a bygone era of English history, The Orangery is a restaurant and patisserie that will offer a refined menu of European and Mediterranean cuisines, plus an afternoon tea.
Lucky Fish

There is scant information about Lucky Fish at present, but one can hazard a guess from its name and Palm Jumeirah location that it will be a seafood restaurant. The decor will supposedly have a very island-inspired aesthetic given a modern spin, and we can probably expect a nightlife element to it as well. Whatever the case, Lucky Fish will likely become a major hangout soon enough.
Senor Pico

Carrying with it a history of almost 60 years, Senor Pico will be bringing its signature Mexican-American cuisine to Palm Jumeirah very soon. You can expect bright, pastel colours, weathered wood tables, mouthwatering Mexican cuisine and a selection of drinks that are as refreshing as they are colourful. All while overlooking the stunning Dubai skyline. A meeting of cultures indeed.
